About Me

James Ramsburg is a linguist and postdoctoral researcher at the Universitat de les Illes Balears, where he works in the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics. His research focuses on language variation and contact, particularly in Catalan–Spanish bilingual communities, with broader interests in variationist sociolinguistics, heritage language acquisition, and the syntax–discourse interface.

His current research examines multilingualism from complementary perspectives, including the acquisition and maintenance of heritage languages and the interaction of discourse, linguistic structure, and language contact in morphosyntactic variation. This work builds on his doctoral research on lexical variation among Catalan–Spanish bilingual youth in Mallorca, which combined variationist methods, dialectometry, and spatial analysis to investigate the linguistic consequences of sustained language contact.
